Mouthguards - Prevent
Dental Injuries
|
 |
National
Sports Youth Foundation estimates that over 5 million teeth will be knocked
out this year during sporting activities. This trauma will happen to
elementary, high school and college level athletes. In fact, dental injuries
are the most common type of trauma sustained during participation in sports.
Dental injuries could be significantly reduced or eliminated if children,
teenagers and adults wore mouthguards when participating in many different
kinds of sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer,
boxing, martial arts, biking, rollerblading, kickboxing, hockey and many
more. Keep in mind that the total cost of rehabilitating a single
knocked-out tooth is approximately 20 times the cost of a preventive
professional grade mouthguard. |

Although
mouthguards can be found in all sporting goods stores, we recommend a
professional custom fitted mouth guard for you or your child. Boil and byte
type mouthguard typically found in the stores do not fit as accuratelyl as
custom fitted mouthguards do. They are often uncomfortable and frequently
interfere with breathing and speaking ability of the athlete. Having your
mouthguard custom made for you or your child will ensure that it will
provide adequate protection and will be worn. |
